INTRODUCTION TO ELECTRONIC QUANTUM TRANSPORT WITH KWANT

Description
INTRODUCTION TO QUANTUM TRANSPORT
When we measure the current as a function of the applied voltage in regular a conductor we obtain the well-known Ohm’s Law. Nevertheless, if the conductor have dimensions in the order of nanometers (mesoscopic systems), the wave-like behaviour of the electrons associated with the quantum effects plays a fundamental role and the ohm-law is radically modified. In this two hour course we will study how the electronic wavesaffect electronic transport in mesoscopic systems and we will work on different small projects to evaluate the quantum behavior of electrons using Kwant, a Python library for electronic transport.

Note: A computer is required.

Best practices for the development of nanosatellites

Description
This workshop will cover the knowledge required to master the development of a successful CubeSat mission from the mission definition to the design, development, launch, operation and closure. Among the topics to be discussed are mission definition, space systems engineering and project management, the acquisition of commercial subsystems, validation, testing, and certification, launch options, as well as legal and regulatory aspects to ensure the success of the mission.

Title
From formula to wonderful

Description
The formula for best practices in science communication includes providing a clear message, having a scientific background, knowing your audience, finding the right media, and bringing a lot of creativity. This workshop will focus on how to tell a science story no matter how complicated the topic is, and will provide guidance on finding the best resources to engage successfully with your public.
